Dr. Liz Anna Kozik (Phd Environment and Resources, UW Madison, MFA Design Studies, UW Madison, BFA Rhode Island School of Design) is a Research Scientist at the Chicago Botanic Garden whose research is focused on lawn alternatives. As one of the founding members of the Rethinking Lawns project, Kozik combines field ecology, horticulture, and public outreach work to share ways people can improve the lawns in their lives. Coming from a background in prairie restoration, she and the team are focused on finding ways to incorporate our low-growing native species into lawn-like plantings. Kozik's primary research focus is on the history and practices of prairie restoration, and science communication. Her work tells stories of the relationship between plants and people through illustration and comics, including her PhD dissertation, a 156 page comic.
